how to arrive
Villalmonte is in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, near Radda in Chianti. In the surrounding areas you can visit some of the most beautifully kept medieval towns and the best wineries. Driving on our scenic routes it takes an hour to Florence, slightly less to Siena and one and a half hours to San Gimignano and Arezzo.
Our nearest airports are Florence, one hour away and Pisa, two hours away. We are an easy four hour drive from Rome Airport and five from Milan. Please check below for detailed directions but don’t forget to print them! If you have a GPS navigator our coordinates are 11° 22' 55'' E 43° 30' 56'' N.
Coming from the North (Milano, Bologna etc.):
Take the A1 highway (Autostrada del Sole) and exit at Firenze CERTOSA. Turn right onto the SIENA-FLORENCE SUPERSTRADA. After about 18k exit at San Donato. Turn left and follow signs to GAIOLE IN CHIANTI and GREVE.
Do not enter the village of San Donato but follow road for about 3k until you reach a small church with a portico on your left. Turn left immediately after the church following sign for GAIOLE IN CHIANTI, GREVE and SICELLE.
Follow the road downhill through LA PIAZZA and at the bottom of the hill turn left following sign to GREVE.
Drive uphill on a windy road until you reach a T-junction and turn right. There is a sign to RADDA IN CHIANTI.
Drive through LUCARELLI and after about 7 kilometres look out for the signpost to VOLPAIA.
Turn left and reach Volpaia on the top of the hill.
As soon as your enter the square in Volpaia (with a bar in front of you) go right following the sign to PANZANO. This narrow street turns into a dirt road as you leave the village. There are parking places on your left. After 2k on this dirt road through the woods, on your left you will see a sign for the B&B (our neighbors) LA LOCANDA and Villalmonte.
Turn left and drive slowly down for about 1k, pass La Locanda and continue around the curve to Villalmonte. Welcome!
Coming from the South (Roma):
Take the A1 (Autostrada del Sole) towards Florence. Exit at VAL D'ARNO and turn right to MONTEVARCHI. On entering Montevarchi follow signs to GAIOLE IN CHIANTI and/or RADDA IN CHIANTI.
After about 15 minutes on a very curvy and uphill drive on the road 408, you will come to a fork in the road. Turn right towards RADDA IN CHIANTI (there is also a sign for Badia a Coltibuono, a nice spot for lunch with a wonderful medieval church in the woods. telephone 0577 749424).
Drive through La Villa on road 429. Pass the gas station on your right and instead of turning right towards Radda in Chianti keep going straight following signs towards GREVE and Firenze (Florence). After about 3k turn right at signpost to VOLPAIA, follow winding road to Volpaia on the top of the hill.
As soon as you enter VOLPAIA's square (with the bar in front of you), go right following sign for Panzano. Exit the town on the other side onto a narrow dirt road. After 2k on this unpaved road in the woods you will come to a sign for the B&B "La Locanda"(our neighbors) and for Villmonte. Turn left and drive slowly downhill for 1 km, pass La Locanda and continue around the curve and down to Villalmonte. Welcome!
From Siena:
Follow directions to road number 222, called “Chiantigiana”. From Siena North follow signs to Castellina in Chianti.
Keep on the 222 through Quercegrossa and Fonterutoli. Go straight through Castellina in Chianti, following signs to Radda in Chianti, Greve, Firenze. After a few kms, go right towards Radda in Chianti on road 429.
Drive straight through Radda and leave the village driving downhill. You will cross a small bridge, over another road not over a river… Soon after the bridge take the right (If you need gas, go left and you’ll find a station 50m ahead on your left.) towards Greve, Firenze, Lucarelli. Drive downhill for about 3k, watch for signpost to Volpaia on the right. Follow this windy uphill road to Volpaia. As soon as you enter the square in Volpaia, with the bar in front of you, turn right following sign to Panzano. Take the narrow street that turns into a dirt road leaving the village. There’s a small parking lot on your left. Drive on the dirt road through the woods for 2k and on your left you will see signs for "La Locanda" (B&B) and Villalmonte. Turn left and drive downhill slowly for 1k passing La Locanda and around the curve to Villalmonte. WELCOME!
From Pisa:
OPTION 1 - Take the directions for FIRENZE on the road called FI-PI-LI (or S.G.C. FI-PI-LI). This is a small highway with no paytoll. Drive for about 65k until you see signs for the A1 highway near Firenze. Take the A1 towards ROMA and exit at FIRENZE CERTOSA (it is the first exit that you find). Turn right onto the SIENA-FLORENCE SUPERSTRADA.
After about 18k exit at San Donato. Turn left and follow signs to GAIOLE IN CHIANTI and GREVE.

From the center of Florence follow signs for Siena and reach the Florence Certosa square (with the highway toll house on your right). Go straight and take the SIENA-FLORENCE SUPERSTRADA.
